Bakuchiol: Nature’s Skincare Secret For Better Than Retinol Benefits

If you like the idea of retinol benefits but, not the side effects then bakuchiol might be your new best friend.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard of retinol. You might have even tried it. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative and is used to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. But, it is also very irritating and drying to the skin.

In fact, the highest grade of retinol can only be prescribed by a dermatologist. The over-the-counter products that have retinol in them are recommended to only be used once a week to allow your skin time to acclimate.

I don’t know about you but, I don’t feel really safe putting something on my skin that should only be used once a week! I’m always looking for natural ways to care for my skin.

And, when I’ve dealt with my mountain of laundry, I usually do have a couple of extra wrinkles!

Thankfully, there is a natural alternative to retinol that doesn’t come with all of those nasty side effects.

First, how do you pronounce it?

I don’t know who comes up with the names of these things but, just looking at the word you wouldn’t immediately know how to pronounce it. In fact, you might even think I had misspelled something.

The word is pronounced buh-KOO-chee-all. It’s actually a compound that comes from the seeds of the babchi plant, which is used a lot in Chinese medicine and Ayurveda.

The compounds in the seeds have some serious anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Making it an obvious choice for a skincare product, right?

Why is Bakuchiol better than retinol?

The retinol benefits that people see in dermatologists offices include rapid skin repair, anti-aging, reduces fine lines and wrinkles and repair of sun damage.

It does this by speeding up the process that skin goes through naturally for repair and rejuvenation. Unfortunately, this accelerated process comes with some side effects like burning, redness and even dermatitis.

Bakuchiol is not nearly as intense on the skin as vitamin A. However, it has been shown to increase cell turn over, leaving room for newer cells that are fresh and healthy to come to the surface. It does this gently and without irritating the skin.

So, if you have psoriasis, eczema or any other type of skin sensitivities you don’t have to worry about skin irritation when using bakuchiol.
